Co-op

Army Reserve Co-op Placement

Semester 2

2012

32 Canadian Brigade Group is pleased to announce the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Army Reserve Co-operative Education Program for 2012. This Co-op is a joint undertaking between the various GTA schools boards and the 32 Canadian Brigade Group. The aim of the military Co-op is to introduce young Canadians to career opportunities in the Army Reserve. There are many benefits of the program: building self-confidence, respect, discipline, team work, problem-solving skills, leadership training and fitness development.

The program is scheduled during the second semester of the school year 2011-12 from February – June. This full day course will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., four days per week. Students will receive military pay during training and successful students will be granted four high school credits, accredited with their Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) and Soldier Qualification (SQ) courses. Further, successful students will be offered continued fulltime paid summer training.

Basic eligibility requirements for enrolment in the Army Co-op program are the same as the Canadian Forces.

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 1, 2011.

All applicants must:

  • be 16 years of age
  • be a Canadian Citizen
  • have completed at least 15 high school credits
  • be free of any legal obligations

The selection process is a six-part procedure that includes:

  • an aptitude test
  • a physical fitness test
  • a two-part medical exam
  • an interview
  • a reliability check

Unfortunately, not all applicants make it through the selection process successfullyhistorically only 50% are successful. Therefore, it is very important that students submit their applications as early as possible. Students should also choose a back-up Co-op placement in the event they are not successful. Army Reserve recruiters from the 32 Brigade will be available to visit high schools in the GTA and distribute Co-op information material to Co-op teachers as well as give formal presentations to classes if requested.

SO! …. Where do we begin?

Motivated students should identify themselves to their respective Co-op teachers and ensure that they are properly enrolled in the Co-op Program in accordance with the school district policy. In most cases an Informed Consent Form is required. This is usually initiated at the school. A Canadian Forces Employment Application Form along with the following original documents is required for processing at the Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre:

  • proof of birth (ie. Birth Certificate, Canadian Passport or Citizenship card if born outside of Canada)
  • Social Insurance Number Card
  • proof of education (official transcripts, certificates, degrees or diplomas)

Should a sufficient number of students from a common location be interested in the Army Co-op program, a recruiter would be available to initiate the application process with the group.

Completed applications are due in no later than November 1, 2011.

Applications must be returned in person to the following address:

Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre

4900 Yonge St. Suite 100

North York, ON

M2N 6A4
