For girls, Guiding is an accepting environment with diverse and exciting programs and activities that offer the chance to discover new interests, learn valuable leadership skills and make lasting friendships. Guiding gives girls the tools and resources they need to achieve greatness.
For women, Guiding is a chance to be part of their community by helping girls develop their potential. It’s a place for personal growth, mentoring and travel opportunities.
What you will do:Volunteers will assist our adult members/ leaders in implementing exciting programs within a local Unit (Sparks age 5 to 6, Brownies age 7 to 8, Guides age 9 to11) on a weekly basis. Units can be found in your neighbourhood.
Skills required:Volunteers must be mature, enjoy working with children, helping others, working in a team environment and be willing to have fun. They must also be organized and have excellent communications skills. Skills such as knowledge of outdoor activities, arts and crafts, songs, games, environmental issues, etc. are an asset, BUT not necessary. Mentoring by adult members is available.
Skills you will learn:Volunteers will gain valuable teaching and leadership experiences. They will also gains skills through the mentoring of the adult members, as well as enjoying an impactful experience.
Length of time required: Units (Sparks, Brownies, Guides) generally meet once a week (one to two hours/week) from September to May. We ask that you commit to the full Guiding year. There are also occasional weekend activities.
