Position title: Crisis Line Volunteer Counsellor
Description of community agency/organization: The Sexual Assault Rape Crisis Centre of Peel is a community based organization of women working with women who have been affected by sexual violence and other forms of oppression. We work form an integrated anti-racist feminist framework that embraces inclusiveness, diversity and equity for all women.
Our services include a 24-hour crisisline, individual and group counselling, psycho-educational workshops, public education, accompaniments to hospitals for recent sexual assault, court, police and healthy sexuality clinics.
What you will do: The Sexual Assault Rape Crisis Centre of Peel is looking for female volunteers, 18 years and older to provide crisis intervention on our 24-hour crisis line. Evening and weekend shifts are available. Volunteers can take the line from their place of residence.

Reliable and Committed
Problem solving skills
Willingness and commitment to ending sexual violence
Flexibility in schedule to pick up crisis line shifts
Skills you will learn:
Working from an integrated anti-racist feminist framework
Crisis intervention
Feminist counselling skills such as empathy, active listening etc
Educating yourself and others about sexual violence and the medical and legal systems related to it
Appropriate information and referrals to community organizations
Confidentiality and Social Work Ethics
Organization and Planning of Take Back the Night and fundraisers
Leadership skills
Length of time required: a commitment of 1 year (16 hours a month in crisis line shifts)
