Elephant Thoughts and Schools 4 Schools

Schools 4 Schools has its foundation in the social studies, geography and media literacy curricula.

The main goals of the program are to:

  • Explore life in developing countries to foster an appreciation for how fortunate we are to live in Canada
  • Learn about the importance of education
  • Build students’ leadership skills
  • Foster compassion for others
  • Enable students to make a real and meaningful difference in the lives of others

Through 4, 2.5 hour workshops, Elephant Thoughts instructors guide students through a variety of interactive activities, which explore topics such as compassion for others, gender equality, cultural relativity, economics, environmental stewardship and more. Students also study film media before filming their very own film on the topic of International Development. During the film making process, students write the script, create the set, direct and act in the film and also learn to work the cameras, microphones, lights and clapboard.

While exploring life in the developing world, students learn about an average education in a poor country and about life without an education. They also explore some of the schools Elephant Thoughts works with in the developing world. In turn, students choose their very own school to support in Nicaragua, India or Tanzania.

Schools 4 Schools has enabled thousands of Canadian students and teachers to make a huge difference in the lives of those less fortunate, while having fun exploring and learning about the world.
