Volunteering in Schools

The Peel District School Board welcomes and encourages the participation of parents and community members in every one of its schoolsfrom elementary right through to high school. The time you invest volunteering can really make a difference to the entire school, as well as to your teen.

Volunteering doesn't mean giving up all your free time. There are plenty of ways for you to help at the school and behind the sceneswe wouldn't want to embarrass your teen!

Here are some options:

  • Become a school council member.
  • Assist school staff by helping out in the library or main office.
  • Offer to tutor students in your favourite subject.
  • "Hire" a co-op or OYAP student at your workplace.
  • Coach a sports team.
  • Speak at or help organize a Career Day.
  • Become the school's webmaster and help keep the school website up-to-date.
  • Share a hobby or area of expertise-run an extracurricular club for students.
  • Volunteer on field trips.
  • Beautify the school-paint a mural or plant flowers.
  • Help out with a drama production by building sets, making costumes or tapping into other skills and talents.
  • Support fundraisers-bake cookies for a bake sale, co-ordinate funds for a worthy cause or buy soap for a car wash.

Criminal records checks ensure student safety

As a safety precaution, we require all volunteers to provide proof of a criminal records check before taking on a volunteer role at the school.

Criminal record check forms are available through the school office. Once the form has been received and approved by the board, you may participate in volunteer activities at the school. If you have questions about the process, please speak to the principal.

Contact your local school to get started volunteering.
