Study Skills: Tips for Students

It's up to you to decide how much and how well you're going to learn-your teachers and your parents can help you, but they can't learn for you.

Want to improve your math skills? You can make good use of resources, get the most benefit from your homework and know what to do if you are having difficulty.

Reading and writing are important to our daily lives. Involve your family in talking about current news stories, play board games like Scrabble or Boggle. Every time you send a text message to a friend or family member you can practice how you write. You can decide to limit the time spent watching television and playing video games, and spend the time reading magazines or newspaper articles. Think about a topic or issue that you are passionate about and drop by the local library to see what's available to read. There are many other ways to improve your reading and writing skills.

There are dozens of tip sheets on specific learning topics on the main Peel board website, in Parents Boost Learning.

Study skills are essential in high school. Find out how you can help your teen sharpen these skills.

Help your teen improve his or her math skills by keeping a positive attitude, helping him or her organized for learning and making good use of school resources.

There are some simple ways to h elp your teen improve reading and writing. You can plan family activities like playing board games or discussing current news stories. Your teen can write friends and family online. You can lead by example in showing that reading is fun.
