Who may attend Credit Summer School?
Both Peel and non-Peel residents may attend Credit Summer School in-class and online credit courses, and Non-Credit ESL Summer School. The admission procedures for each program may vary. Consult the specific eligibility requirements listed under each program description from Chart Your Course. Students who do not meet the admission requirements for certain courses must obtain an assessment by contacting the Adult Education Centre for more information at 905-270-6000 ext. 420.

Formation of classes
All classes are conditional on space, teacher availability and sufficient enrolment and could be cancelled or transferred to a different location. New credit courses with insufficient enrolment may be cancelled in mid June.

Secondary school credit

Students may only take one summer school credit or two, half summer school credits whether online or in class.

Credit Summer School program includes make-up credits for grades 9 to 12 and new credits for grades 10 to 12. Online credit courses are available for grades 10 to 12. These courses, which are offered to adolescent and adult learners, are offered at various locations throughout Peel.

New credit courses (110 hours) are for students who have not previously studied the course or who do not have a final mark in the course. Since the course involves five hours of study each day, only one new credit course may be taken.

Please note that space and teacher availability in some courses may be limited. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration takes place beginning in early May for all courses. Students can register in second session courses at this time until classes are filled. Wait lists are taken when classes are full pending registered student withdrawals.

Formation of new credit classes will occur by mid-June. You will be contacted by Continuing Education only if your course is full, transferred or cancelled, otherwise, report to the summer school location on the first day if you are not contacted.

The final report card is issued on the last day of the course. Examinations will be reviewed and report cards distributed in class. Students wishing to withdraw from a course must contact the summer school office at the summer school location where they attended.

Is there homework?
Summer school courses cover an entire year's work in a compressed period of time and students must be prepared to allocate sufficient time to work at home every day. It is not advisable to pursue daily employment.

Criteria for acceptance
Make-up credit courses (55 hours) are open to students who have completed the same course during the regular school year, but they either have not obtained a passing grade on their final report card or wish to improve their mark. A minimum mark of 40 per cent must have been achieved in the course during the regular school year; otherwise, students in grades 10 through 12 must take the course again as a new credit and grade 9 students will repeat the course as a full make-up credit (110 hours).

Please note: ESL non-credit and ESLfull make-up credit courses for secondary school students are available at selected locations. Please speak to your guidance counsellor about these courses (110 hours ).

Cost to students
Textbooks are provided for use during summer school at no cost to the student. Students are responsible for the replacement cost of lost, misplaced or damaged textbooks.

con-ed-online orientation
Students are expected to attend orientation. Please check con-ed-online for more information on days and time for orientation.
