$400,000 donation will "provide life-saving support to Haitian children," says UNICEF president Peel District School Board students and staff raised almost $400,000 during a board-wide Send Hope to Haiti campaign. Schools planned a variety of fundraisers in support of UNICEF Canada, raising $390,000. The remaining $10,000 was donated to other charities. Nigel Fisher, president and CEO of UNICEF Canada, will attend the regular meeting of the board on Feb. 9 to accept the donation and provide an update on UNICEF's relief efforts in Haiti. |

Peel board provides parent tips to prepare children for kindergarten Parents can register children born in 2006 for kindergarten between Feb. 8 to 19. At registration, parents will receive a Stepping into Kindergarten package of tips and activities to help prepare their child for school. Registration dates for each school are available at www.peelschools.org by clicking on 'Kindergarten Registration' from the home page, or by calling the school. |

At the Jan. 26 regular board meeting, Peel board trustees will consider a recommendation to change the boundaries and organization of Hillcrest and Whiteoaks schools. Effective September 2010, it is recommended that Hillcrest become a middle school, with grades 6 to 8. Students in kindergarten to grade 5 who previously would have attended Hillcrest are recommended to attend Whiteoaks school. | ||
